How do I know my home and pets are safe and secure?

The safety of your pets and home is our top priority. My Pet's Friend, LLC is licensed, bonded and insured through Business Insurers of the Carolinas and accredited by Pet Sitters International.

What do you do at the initial consultation?

During the consultation, which takes about 30 minutes, we meet you and your pet to ensure we get along. We also review the paperwork detailing your pet's needs, along with our policies, to better understand them before we take care of your pet. Follow the consult, we email the notes to you for your approval before providing them to your sitter.

How and when do I pay for my service?

Invoices are emailed at the end of each month. Payment may be made by mailing your check, made payable to MY PET'S FRIEND, LLC, or by using the online payment service Venmo. Venmo is a no-fee method to transfer funds directly from your account to ours. Please ask us for details. Payment is due within 15 days of receipt of your invoice. Late payment charges will apply. Please see our Policies and Procedures for more information.

Is my key and information safe?

We are extremely careful with our client's information. Keys are coded without your name or address attached and are kept in a secure location. My Pet's Friend never shares addresses, security codes, or any other information with anyone.

How do you handle keys? Are you able to hold keys on file for when I travel in the future?

At the initial consultation, we ask you to provide us with two keys to leave them on file for future visits. This allows you to schedule visits with ease and for us to be available for short notice or emergency visits. After the initial consult, there is a $5 charge to drop off or pick up keys. Of course, if you prefer not to provide us your key, hiding it is a good option.

What is the timing of your visits?

We space visits according to your individual pets' needs, but no more than 12 hours apart. Once-a-day cat visits are done at our convenience, unless otherwise agreed upon.

What about food, cat litter, etc.?

You should leave enough food, cat litter, medication or other items to care for your pet(s)--as defined in your care notes--while you are away; you should leave extra in case you cannot return on time. Should My Pet's Friend be required to purchase any supplies, a fee will be charged--plus the cost of the merchandise--to pick them up.

What do I need to do to prepare for your overnight visit?

We ask that you provide a bed and bedding, which we will strip upon completion of our stay. If you would like to leave an additional set of clean sheets, we will remake the bed. We will bring our own meals. We also ask for access to your internet service and any login and password information for use during our stay.

What if my pet is sick?

We do not knowingly accept sitting assignments with sick pets. We firmly believe that sick pets belong under the care of a veterinarian. However, if you have aged, infirm, or medicated pets, we will discuss the special needs your pet requires and determine if we can provide proper care. Pets requiring external and/or oral medications are acceptable and there are no additional charges for giving medications that are dropped into food. For pets requiring injections, there is a $3 charge per injection, per animal. Note: All pets under our care must be up to date on all required vaccinations.

What if there is an emergency while I am away?

We retain emergency contact information with us at all times. We will always contact you first for minor incidents or concerns. In the case of a serious emergency, we will contact you as soon as your pet reaches the veterinarian and is under care. Your signature on your Client Profile Form allows us to seek care in the event that you cannot be reached in an emergency. You have the option on the form to specify a monetary limit, if you would like. We do charge a $35 fee for emergency veterinary trips. If your vet is not available, or if it is after hours, we will take your pet to the nearest open veterinary clinic.

What happens if I come home early, or my return home is delayed?

We understand that plans change, people come home early, and flights are sometimes delayed. My Pet's Friend carefully schedules our time to service you and our other clients. Therefore, there are no refunds or credits for early returns or last minute changes to pet care. Once pet care begins, payment is due for the original dates scheduled. If your return home is delayed, please contact us to make us aware of the situation. We will continue to care for your pets until you can return home and will include the extra charges on your invoice. It is your responsibility to contact us as soon as possible upon your return home to let us know that your pets are safe with you. We consider our visits to be completed following the last visit you have scheduled.

Will you board my pet?

My Pet's Friend is not a licensed boarding service, in that we cannot take your pets to our home. We provide loving pet care right in your own home which provides comfort and security to you and your pet.

Can we have our family or friends check in on the pets while we are away?

If there should be anyone other than My Pet's Friend pet sitters in your house, we need to be fully aware of this before the contract date. You should make your neighbors, family members, and friends aware that we are pet sitting in order to avoid any complications or misunderstandings. Please do not have them feed your pets. We do leave logs and would ask that they leave a note indicating that they were there.

Do I need to have another meeting and fill out another service contract every time I need pet sitting?

No. Once your service agreement is on file, a quick e-mail or phone call to My Pet's Friend is all you need to book service. My Pet's Friend does not communicate via text messages.
